Ohio & Erie Canalway Association
The Ohio & Erie Canalway Association (OECA) is the organization designated by Congress to manage the Ohio & Erie Canal National Heritage Canalway by developing and implementing a Canalway management plan. They also oversee a matching grant program to promote local implementation of the plan.
The OECA board consists of eighteen members that represent all four counties within the corridor. Six of the members represent the Ohio Canal Corridor, the Cuyahoga County non-profit; and six represent the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, which represents the southern three counties: Summit, Stark and Tuscawaras. The remaining six are independent representatives of the Canalway.
Directors of the two primary partner organizations, the Ohio Canal Corridor and the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, along with Cuyahoga Valley National Park staff, provide technical assistance to OECA for the management and development of the Ohio & Erie Canal National Heritage Canalway. Cuyahoga Valley National Park Superintendent John P. Debo Jr. serves an ex-officio role on the association board.
The Executive Committee of the OECA consists of the Chairman, Immediate Past Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. The board and support staff are currently implementing the first management plan through OECA committees for Grants, Interpretation, Marketing, and Signage.
