Put on your sleuthing cap! Follow a curious map & solve rhyming clues that take you on a walking journey through an outdoor space with a story to tell.
Questing is a new outdoor adventure series in the Ohio & Erie Canalway.
Each Quest is designed to help you discover the natural and cultural gems of the Canalway & its clues lead you to a hidden box!
When to Go? Follow 22 Quests from April 15 - Nov. 15th
Where? Quests currently are active in three County Sections - Cuyahoga, Summit & Stark
Who can Quest?
All ages and abilities - school age to adult. There’s even one for Toddlers (1 2 3 Come Quest With Me)
Cuyahoga Valley National Park, along with Cleveland Metroparks, Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, Stark Parks, Cascade Locks Park Association, and the Ohio & Erie Canalway, introduced this new interactive recreational activity to Northeast Ohio.
Free to the public, all you need is a pencil/pen to participate. A personal stamp enhances the fun.
The National Park offers seasonal programs where you can make your own stamp - check back during the Questing season.

Simply print it out and “Map Your Trip!” to plot your journey.
How to Quest - the specifics
Questing is modeled after the English practice of letterboxing.
- Each Quest has you follow a series of rhyming clues.
- During your journey - the clues lead to a hidden "treasure" box.
- Once found - open the box and look inside! You’ll see:
- A Ledger - to leave a note that you were there &
- A Stamp - to collect proof that you found the box.
- Leave your mark & re-hide the box - for other Questers to discover!
- Ready? Pick a Quest & print it out. Map Your Trip! & then head out.
- How Questing differs from Geocaching - no trinkets are exchanged
- Field Copies of Quests - you’ll find them at Visitor Centers
