Building a Community of Park Stewards
Peninsula, Ohio – Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park are pleased to announce the kick-off of the inaugural Habitat Restoration season. Beginning May 10, 2012, CVNP will host regularly scheduled opportunities for volunteers to participate in habitat restoration projects throughoutthe park. Volunteers are invited to help park staff in an effort to restore natural areas and preserve the health of native wildlife and plants. Projects include planting native vegetation, collecting seeds from native plants, and removing exotic plants that have become invasive. Invasive plants threaten ecosystems by choking native vegetation of space, sunlight, and nutrients, and by replacing vital food sources for the park’s wildlife.
The Opportunities
- Remove exotic plants: second Thursday, 1 - 4 p.m. and fourth Saturday, 9 a.m.- noon, (May - November)
- Collect seeds from native plants: every Tuesday 1 - 4 p.m. (August - October)
- Plant a butterfly garden: June 16, 2012, 9 a.m. - noon
Volunteers are welcome to attend one program or all. No long-term commitment or experience necessary. Advanced registration is recommended and required for groups of 5 or more.
