Celebrating the completion of a 40-year vision

Organizers who are scheduling events in 2012 that take place on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Summit County can be part of a planned countywide 2012 Towpath Trail celebration. 

Who's Involved
 
Officials from the City of Akron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area, the Summit County Historical Society, Cascade Locks Park Association, Friends of Metro Parks, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, and Metro Parks, Serving Summit County are partnering on a year-long campaign to highlight the trail’s completion in Summit County. Summit is the first of the four Canalway counties to complete the Towpath from border-to-border.

Where to find events and news - how to participate 

The Ohio & Erie Canalway visitor website - www.ohioanderiecanalway.com - is serving as the host website for both visitors and partners in the year-long celebration. All organizations with a footprint in Summit County are considered partners for the festivities and all meeting that description are welcome to submit event details, and be included in opportunities for special listings, website sections and commemorative publications.

Joining the celebration - tagging your event as a Summit Towpath 2012 Event

As part of the year-long event, a commemorative graphic icon was created. This graphic can easily be used on qualifying events - those happening on/or near the Summit County Sections of the Towpath Trail - to signify it as part of the celebration. It is suitable for use on web and printed items. 

  • Graphics: To obtain the graphic package, please contact Karl Simonson, Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, at: ksimonson@summitmetroparks.org 
  • Color Usage: It must be used either in black or in the PMS 302/4-color build shown in the package.

About the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail

Annually, more than 2.5 million people find their way to the iconic 81+ mile Towpath Trail running through the heart of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area. Whether birding, biking, hiking, running, riding on horseback, taking a canal boat ride, or traveling alongside it by scenic rail — folks find that old-school “travel” along the Towpath Trail adds an undeniable energy to the quality of life in the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Stark and Tuscarawas in Northeastern Ohio.
