The Ohio Byways Collection - 27 Paths to see our state!

Ohio Byways act as pathways into cultural, historic, natural and man-made wonders that can be seen across Ohio. In our state, there are 27 designated Byways - typically two-lane roads - that have been given this designation.

Fun Byway Facts

Byways are designed to help you "experience and savor life in the slow lane." And, if you typically take a highway on your travels - there’s probably a Byway nearby to turn your everyday trip into an adventure. We invite you to hop off the freeway and come see what awaits!

To become a designated Byway - the journey must showcase culture, history, archeology, nature, recreation, or a scenic route in our borders. In addition:

  • Some Byways follow a single road - while others map together a signed route.
  • You follow the Byway signs to discover each Byway’s story.

Take an adventure along an America's Byway, too!

AmericasByways_tucked_gif Five of the state Byway routes also have been recognized nationally as America’s Byways. These Byways will carry signs bearing the America’s Byways logo (left.) Following the signs will take you on delightful off-freeway journeys to sites of importance to both our country and our state.
