In 2010, Outdoor Photographer magazine called the world's attention to something we’re fortunate enough to experience daily - the beauty of the land in our National Park.
From the beautiful monarch butterflies taking flight in the summer, to the historic locks and Scenic Rail stops along the way, there’s plenty for your scrapbook in the Summit County Section of the Canalway. To capture the flavor of the state, swing by Deep Lock Quarry - an historic canal-era site - known for having more Buckeye trees than any other Metro Parks, Serving Summit County location.
Other must-visit spots include:
- Beaver Marsh - accessed from the Ira Road Trailhead
- Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens - Akron
- Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
- Historic and charming Peninsula
- Bath Road Heronry - an amazing Canalway discovery awaits you in the treetops of the Heronry - just east of the America’s Byway (Riverview Road in this Section) on Bath Road.
What to look for — June, July and August
Local photographers Gigi Muir and Kay Wuske embarked on their own Canalway trek in 2010, spending 300+ days taking more than 80,000 photos along the 81+ mile Towpath Trail. We asked for their suggestions on photo ops to watch for in the coming months - enjoy!
