Tuscarawas County Section

Classic family fun can be had on the rides at Tuscora Park, bicycling on the Towpath Trail, or perhaps counting the buttons in the Button House at Warther Museum. And train lovers of all ages will be amazed at the intricate wood train carvings of “Moody” Warther — called “priceless works of art” by the Smithsonian — and featured at the museum.

It’s also a Trailhead for the Towpath Trail. Head to the back of the lot for a 2.9 mile journey between Fort Laurens and
Canal Lands Park in Zoar.

Village of Zoar - wander through original 1817 buildings and historic garden

Don’t forget to see the view from inside the tree standing at the center of the garden!

Take a visit to the J. E. Reeves Victorian Home & Carriage House Museum - complete with canal-era artifacts.

The Warther Museum - in Dover -
appeals to train lovers of all ages - from Thomas the Train to steamies and diesels.
The amazing carvings by Ernest “Mooney” Warther are a sight to be seen - and enjoyed.

Travel Back in Time

Trumpet in the Land is outdoor, living history theater. You can experience a night under the stars at this summer’s productions - set at a time when Ohio was the western frontier of America. (Schoenbrunn Ampitheater in New Philadelphia)

Find Some Natural Fun

Birding & Wildlife Watching - Area Naturalists share what to look for at two key sites - Zoar Wetlands and Zoar Wetland Arboretum. Check Birdwatching_Tuscarawas and see what sights the day might bring!

Towpath Trail Wanderings - Close to three miles of improved Towpath Trail offer a great outdoor outing. You can stick to the 2.9 mile stretch between Fort Laurens and Canal Lands Park or consider a journey north. At this point, the Towpath, with a few short breaks along the way, will take you 81+ miles north - and offers a great way to spend a few vacation days!
