Cleveland Metroparks assumed management of the nearly 300-acre West Creek Reservation on January 1, 2006. The namesake of the reservation, West Creek, is a nine-mile tributary of the Cuyahoga River that flows through the cities of Parma, Seven Hills, Brooklyn Heights and Independence. Geologically unique and biologically diverse, the area that is now West Creek Reservation had experienced degradation from a variety of sources including waste disposal, hillside erosion, a channelized stream and illegal dumping. In partnership with the City of Parma and the West Creek Preservation Committee, Cleveland Metroparks worked to develop a plan to enrich the community through the provision of outdoor recreation and education resources at West Creek Reservation. The plan identifies initiatives to preserve and restore the natural habitat, stream corridors and forested areas while also providing trails, picnic areas and educational facilities over the next few years.
