• October 5 - October 16, 2026: The following parking lots will be closed for periods of maintenance over these weeks (subject to change due to weather conditions): 

  • Frazee House & Jaite/Headquarters, 10/5 - 10/6

  • East Rim Trailhead & Ira Trailhead, 10/6 - 10/7

  • Canal Exploration Center, 10/7 - 10/8

  • Station Road Bridge Trailhead, 10/13 - 10/15

  • Lock 39 Trailhead, 10/16 - 10/16 

• Starting August 24, 2026: The Towpath Trail will close between Boston Trailhead to Lock 29 in Peninsula starting Monday, August 24 through November 20 for a rebuild of the Stumpy Basin boardwalk. It is anticipated that the section between Lock 29 northward for about 3/4 of a mile will reopen in September south of Stumpy Basin. The rest of the trail between Stumpy Basin to Boston Trailhead will remain closed. There is no posted detour.

• Starting October 5, 2026: Sections of the Towpath Trail, between Clinton Trailhead and Wolf Creek Trailhead, will be resurfaced using limestone material through late October. While the Towpath Trail will remain open, Summit Metro Parks encourages users to avoid the area or limit usage in this section if possible. If you must pass through, please exercise caution and walk your bicycle through the active work zone.

  • The parking lot at Franklin Trailhead will be closed for the duration of the project.

  • Half of the parking lot at Vanderhoof Trailhead will be inaccessible.

• July 31, 2026: Please be advised that the City of Akron is completing riverbank stabilization work on the Little Cuyahoga River at Memorial Parkway that requires crossing equipment over the Towpath Trail. Please use caution when going through this area.

• September 28, 2026: The Towpath Trail will be closed on weekdays, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. between Cherry Street and Tremont Avenue in Massillon through mid-October.

• August 5, 2026: The Jacob Coxley bridge from the Towpath Trail to downtown Massillon will be closed while an inspection contractor completes a review, which is anticipated to last several weeks. Access to the bridge is barricaded and trail users should use the Tremont Avenue SW bridge as a detour. This detour adds about a quarter mile in length.
