• August 15, 2026: The Towpath Trail will be closed near the I-77 overpass due to a downed tree. Follow detour: Heading south, turn off the trail onto East 49th and reenter the trail at Aqueduct Trailhead. Heading north, exit the Towpath Trail at Aqueduct Trailhead onto East 49th, and continue until the top of the hill at the curve of the road on East 49th to reenter the Towpath Trail. The trail is expected to reopen on August 25, 2026.

• August 18, 2025: Lights are out at several locations along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.

• August 14, 2026: Hunt House Trailhead to Beaver Marsh will be closed for resurfacing on weekdays starting Monday, August 17 to Friday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m. Open on weekends but not weekday evenings, please plan accordingly.

• Starting August 24, 2026: The Towpath Trail will close between Boston Trailhead to Lock 29 in Peninsula starting Monday, August 24 through November 20 for a rebuild of the Stumpy Basin boardwalk. It is anticipated that the section between Lock 29 northward for about 3/4 of a mile will reopen by early September south of Stumpy Basin. The rest of the trail between Stumpy Basin to Boston Trailhead will remain closed. There is no posted detour.

• July 31, 2026: Please be advised that the City of Akron is completing riverbank stabilization work on the Little Cuyahoga River at Memorial Parkway that requires crossing equipment over the Towpath Trail. Please use caution when going through this area.

• August 5, 2026: The Jacob Coxley bridge from the Towpath Trail to downtown Massillon will be closed while an inspection contractor completes a review, which is anticipated to last several weeks.
